Hey fediverse, I've recently created a privacy recommendations site (see previous posts) and since I want it to be community based, I need a place to discuss what should be recommended.

Something like a forum, but self-hosting a forum requires a lot of spam moderation and that's something I'd like to avoid.

There's also Lemmy (a federated and libre Reddit alternative) but it's JS heavy. I'm considering the possibility of a mailing list.

I want to hear your opinions, boosts appreciated

Trying tut, a TUI client for Mastodon. I really love how it works. It's much better than opening a modern browser just for browsing my timeline. And writing my posts in vi make me feel just at home.

Probably the best TUI client for Mastodon, since I've only found other one written in Python. I avoid as much as possible Python programs because they're awfully slow and they pull a ton of dependencies. Anyway, if you have recommendations for any other TUI client for Mastodon, just let me know.

      from @signalapp
The phenomenon of unsolicited and unwanted messaging dates back to the earliest communication platforms: from prehistoric cave graffiti and postal chain letters to popup ads and robocalls. To prevent spam, most online services rely on large-scale inspection of plaintext conversation content or de...

Signal is making a part of their server source code proprietary software:

"To keep Signal a free global communication service without spam, we must depart from our totally-open posture and develop one piece of the server in private".

Taking into account it's centralized nature and that they don't allow third party clients, Signal seems to be just as bad as other "privacy" oriented companies.

Leave Signal and join a truly private, decentralized and libre protocol like #XMPP

Great news, uBlock Origin have added Adguard URL tracking filter to it's stock lists.

I've been testing it and it works as expected. So everyone that has both uBlock Origin and ClearURLs installed can now remove ClearURLs and enable this list in UBO.

AdGuard URL Tracking Protection uses the relatively new removeparam modifier filters to automatically remove the tracking crap at the end of URLs before you connect

Why GNU/Linux journalism (and free software journalism in general) sucks?

It seems that pretty much every medium-big blog/news portal about GNU/Linux doesn't give a shit about content quality. I've found a ton of misleading tutorials and misinformation. Most of them are full of advertisement and analytics. And they link to proprietary social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc). They only care about monetization.

The only good content about GNU/Linux are personal blogs truly written by users.

I've added a few 88x31 banners to my blog and I was thinking about joining or creating a webring.

It'd a fun way to promote a people-first web, instead of this crappy corporation web that we have today.
