Capitalism is just monarchy with a gift shop attached.
Apple is slowly boiling frogs on client-side scanning.
They got a backlash when they announced everything they were planning all at once so now they’re drip feeding it, hoping you won’t notice.
Wow, so I just called Vhi and confirmed that only large corporations can have waiting periods and preexisting conditions waived on their plans. And I was recording the call (with their knowledge, just like they were) so I guess that’s going to make an interesting blog post.
So, basically, there is a two-tier health insurance system in Ireland where large US corporations like WMWare don’t have waiting periods or limitations on preexisting conditions whereas everyday folks living in Ireland do.
It’s quite amazing to me that the media here has not covered this… surely I can‘t be the first person to have noticed it?
Anyway, if anyone from the Irish press does want to chat about this, you know where to find me.
So what’s the difference between working at a US #BigTech company and a tiny #SmallTech not-for-profit like ours in #Ireland? Oh, about 26 weeks difference in being able to access healthcare and any preexisting conditions not being covered.
Not getting any coding done because GitHub is down? Why not take the opportunity to check out Codeberg (https://codeberg.org/), Gitea (https://gitea.com/) or GitLab (https://about.gitlab.com/install/)

(In my case, I hadn’t changed the motherboard or anything but I guess the BIOS reverts back to Raid when it runs out of juice or something… it had lost the date setting too.)
Anyone know how to count Unicode glyphs in Vala?
Eg., “🙄👈” = two glyphs
This is currently what I’m banging my head against.
