     @kirschwipfel There’s Gash and Gash-Utils, POSIX shell and commands implemented in #Guile by @janneke & co. More exciting (to me!) because it fits in the bigger #Guix picture.

     And… it’s memory-safe! :-)

     I guess a related question is: what do we, #copyleft folks, have to offer that’s technically exciting enough that it could gain mindshare?

     There are several answers high in the stack—PeerTube! Mobilizon!—but probably too few at the systems level.

     I'm afraid we'd need to come up with a #GPL'd version of coreutils written in rust yourself. Not sure whether this might stop others to reimplement it (in rust) to get another license. At least it would stop their argumentation.

     I remember Ledru championing efforts to replace GCC with Clang, notably in Debian, and now he appears to be leading the work to replace the #GNU Coreutils:

     Users need a memory-safe ‘mkdir’ command more than they need copyleft, I suppose?
