To the many who've joined the Fediverse this past week, just a clarification: the 'big tech' folk you see here from Microsoft/Google/Amazon/etc. have mostly also only just arrived, too, smelling 'green fields' into which to proselytise on behalf of their exploitative hyper-tech corp employers. If, for example, you think Microsoft is now a friend of #FOSS (Free & Open Source Software) then you've bought their PR. They are not. They're a tapeworm in the healthy gut of FOSS community ecosystems.

Dave Lane (lightweight@mastodon.nzoss.nz)'s status on Wednesday, 23-Nov-2022 03:12:33 CET Dave Lane We should definitely welcome them here, but we should not accept their attempts to positively spin their employers' exploitative, colonising, personal sovereignty nullifying behaviour over the past 20+ years. The Fediverse isn't big-tech capitulating. It's them retrenching and trying to work out new ways to fool/surround an increasingly savvy tech community. We need to call them out when we see it. Shilling for $trillion corporations should not be respected.
