do you actually use wayland or just talk about it?

I am interested in the "no keylogging" feature for more general use, but I rely on some X11 features still that aren't in Wayland and don't currently want to try to figure out a good window manager replacement that works on Wayland. I do like to talk about display servers sometimes, though, as this writing attests.

But I'm worried about wayland not having support for some programs and I don't want to fight against it (I already fight a lot against #Guix even if I love it) -

willghatch@mastodon.social's status on Saturday, 22-Apr-2023 17:08:19 CEST willghatch @ekaitz_zarraga I think "normal" programs work fine. The programs that don't work for me are things I use for things like dynamically changing the keyboard layout (in a window-manager agnostic way) or sending synthetic keypresses of arbitrary unicode symbols. Things that explicitly interact with the display server that Wayland lacks in a standardized fashion. (To date, at least, as far as I know.)

Adrián Pérez (aperezdc@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 22-Apr-2023 20:17:58 CEST Adrián Pérez @ekaitz_zarraga @mntmn I've been for a long time switching between Wayland and X11 sessions to dogfood WebKitGTK on both. Mostñy GNOME Shell, but also wlroots based compositors in the last few years. Running a Wayland compositor has become boring, which is good: things work, there aren't surprises, and sone things do work better to the point that I even have no Xwayland support in some compositors I run sometimes.

An old Wacom tablet I have works fine under GNOME, but I haven't tried it with other compositors. Actually I have been building GIMP from the development branch with the GTK3 support because it works much, much better than through Xwayland.
