@rune @reynir "Use 4-space indents and no tabs at all."
:blobcatno:
@zatnosk @reynir Accessibility? :blobcatno:
Also, being used to 2-space-width, it's terrifying to double that and THEN have to stay below 79 characters.
@reynir @zatnosk I don't think that Guido cares what language it's in.
Even for the Python C code guidelines it says:"No line should be longer than 79 characters. If this and the previous rule together don't give you enough room to code, your code is too complicated"
Granted I think that policy is full of shit, but it's funny in this scenario :blobamused:
@zatnosk @rune Clearly, mysql should stop writing python code altogether!
@zatnosk Obviously, lines should be presented as a spiral on the screen, one line at a time for maximal utility of screen estate.
@reynir @zatnosk If you listen to the Python language developers you should just stop writing code with lines longer than 79 characters
https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0008/#maximum-line-length
@rune @reynir I'm not writing the long(est) lines, mysql is!
I need at least two monitors when working, because sometimes lines are so wide they don't fit on one monitor, so I just let them continue on the other monitor!
@ekaitz_zarraga @zatnosk @reynir You might have a selection bias in languages.I can't imagine java or c# written like that. It's unthinkable to me.
It's not a problem for me in ruby, but honestly my natural preference is a tad higher up to about ~90 characters looking at some recent code.
