   @ekaitz_zarraga @Aurochs you can propose your idea in a university department. Younger people are arriving to universities and they have a wider view than the sometimes conservative academic view. I would send emails after doing some research about departments doing interesting stuff.

     @ekaitz_zarraga It usually takes about 6 months of full time dedication to figure out how to start a PhD in a very topic.

     @ekaitz_zarraga Yes you do, a good mentor is super important. But consider that the best mentor is not always the most prominent scientist in the topic.

     @ekaitz_zarraga i work rounded by PhDs in different points of their lives and PhDs-in-progress.. seeing that daily life, i certainly know that's not for me. and i also know this is usually a "jump through hoops" thing

     @ekaitz_zarraga @editora I remember my university days with love. I finished my bachelor degree and after six months doing nothing I decided to come back to university to get my PhD. Again, I enjoyed a lot this period. I found amazing and brilliant people on my way and I suppose this makes a huge difference :owi:

     @pybonacci @ekaitz_zarraga If you want to do your Phd in that specific topic, I think that's the way to go. You have to consider several things, particularly if you want to find foundings opportunities for your Phd (the probabilities of geting a grant or money for a project also deppend on the CV of your advisor and his team).

     @Aurochs @ekaitz_zarraga for the funding, I would also consider crowdfunding or talks with businesses related with the topic
