    @vfrmedia yeah the charging is a problem here as well, especially in densely populated areas. Having a garage is a luxury in Prague. I still hold hope for hydrogen or some similar technology to replace batteries by then. Hydrogen is mostly held back by the tanks needing expensive composite material because hydrogen eats through metal. Toyota seems to have it figured out in some way though

      @piggo its planned for 2030 in UK (pure internal combustion engines) - hybrids will still be allowed until 2035 but any used cars can still be driven for as long as they pass roadworthiness tests..

      Unless UK Power Networks and the Council put a charging post outside my house and its same cost as my normal electricity bill, I expect my first EV is likely to be the car I own around the time of my retirement (or at least my late 50s)

      EU is banning petrol cars by 2035, time to enjoy polluting while we can

      @piggo @ekaitz_zarraga

      hybrids, which contain both lithium batteries *and* petrol are likely to keep the Fire Brigade busy as well (there are already problems with people dumping their unwanted mobile phones/other gadgets in the container and entire rubbish lorries going up on fire in London)

      @vfrmedia @ekaitz_zarraga I must say Hindenburg on wheels sounds exciting. Well maybe a little more exciting than what I'd want to drive 🤔gasoline isn't exactly inert either though lol

      @ekaitz_zarraga @piggo @vfrmedia OTOH not sure if the Hindenburg comparison is fair...

      A pressurized bottle of hydrogen in a car is likely to explode, while expanded to fill a giant cigar tends to burn while the airship loses altitude slowly before the fire reaches the gondola.

      Amusingly only one third of the people in the Hindenburg died (compare with an airplane accident!) and most of the deceased did not have a way to escape and jump out of their quarters.
