As a part of the hackaday prize, there were mentoring sessions, and I decided to try it and had one with Kliment Yanev. We talked about my cheap walking robot, Fluffbug, and he proposed a nice solution for too long servo cables.
Sure, you can cut them, but then you have no plug, and either you have to solder them directly to the PCB, or attach a new plug, which costs and requires tools.
His suggestion was to use one of those plugs for ribbon cables, that bite into the cable when you close them. No tools.
