@opfez Yeah, Free Pascal is the way to go! There’s GNU’s compiler but it is abandoned iirc, there’s Borland’s compiler and also some other companies compiler but it’s not as documented as Free Pascal

@royniang Woah! That sounds great, now I want to take the plunge and try writing some of it myself. I'm not up to speed on Pascal, is FreePascal the version you're using?

@royniang Nice! How are you finding Pascal so far? I've been tentatively looking at it as a replacement for the tasks I use C for nowadays, as it looks to be a bit safer and less of a headache to deal with.

@opfez that’s totally how I feel about it, it looks as fast, lightweight and powerful as C, without the weirdness of C. It’s a real joy to use! C won in the industry because of Unix, but Pascal won in my heart because it’s pretty zen

@ekaitz_zarraga @opfez I know Oberon, but never actually toyed with it... yet :moar:

@ekaitz_zarraga @royniang For sure! I tried Oberon earlier and found it to be quite an interesting OS. I am curious as to how portable Oberon/Modula is compared to Pascal/C though, as that is the primary selling point for me. For other projects I tend to use languages like Haskell or a dialect of Lisp. From what I've gathered, Free Pascal is pretty portable which is nice.

@ekaitz_zarraga What processor do you tend to run it on (even if emulated)? @opfez @royniang
