@ekaitz_zarraga you can guess, and it's often right. Except for when it isn't. What was also fun is that czech has genders too and they often don't match up, and we have a neutral one too.
@ekaitz_zarraga (I mostly mentioned it because the name is so ridiculous). and then there's habemos hecho which is, a continued action in the past,I guess?
@ekaitz_zarraga I watched "Lucia y el sexo" in original and couldn't understand half of what they were saying,. I guess real spoken language is so different from what you hear in class
@ekaitz_zarraga@piggo totally this. This has quite a bit of a compilation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_profanity but still misses pearls like “me cago en la mierda” or the fact that in Galician the word “carallo” (in Spanish “carajo”) can go the full spectrum from something very good to something very bad, is super context dependent, an more than often varies depending on the mutual understanding of the people involved on a conversation :blobcatcoffee:
@piggo@ekaitz_zarraga spoilers: you don't need it, it's overkill and a perfect example of when something is overengineered.
Objects having gender is among the worst decisions a language can choose, unfortunately a ton of languages took that path, German plus all the romance langauges... was that really necessary?
If esperanto teaches you something, is that simplicity and consistency is king.
@ekaitz_zarraga@piggo yeah, interestingly mexican spanish is slightly simpler than Castilian, the more people from different regions speak a language, the simpler the language gets.
Having that said... spanish is overkill and the only good spanish is the one that children speak.
@ekaitz_zarraga@piggo i can get behind that, i love spanish and its beautiful pronunciation, i just feel it's worse than english as a lingua franca, significantly more complex to express the same things, and english is not as simple as some people say, it's quite the inconsistent language which makes it hard.
Either way, i feel that if a country wants to promote this language, we have to review some of its rough corners.
