After about a week "camping" around using borrowed discarded computers and parts, here's some of my findings so far:
- Your old beater PC most likely can and will be useful again. With the right dose of Linux, that is.
- Linux is lighter, but it won't make your PC itself faster. A shitty CPU under Linux is still a shitty CPU.
- Your amazing fresh install of Linux reviving the old chap isn't gonna be very useful without your data either. A separate LUKS-encrypted USB with the essentials helps.
