Great news, my #Tektronix 11801 oscilloscope mainframe has shipped! Can't wait to do some 20 GHz measurements at femtosecond resolution! #electronics

niconiconi (niconiconi@cybre.space)'s status on Tuesday, 29-Jun-2021 20:57:09 CEST niconiconi Found a really annoying #KiCad bug. In a fresh installation (no config files), opening an existing project creates a profile with no information about built-in symbols and footprints, giving you a schematic full of question marks. It seems that the default library initialization code only works while you're creating a blank project. #electronics

From now on, whenever I do this I'll claim the board is hacked using the recommended industry standard technique. #electronics

Awww, even looking at it is painful, there must be a lot of industrial horror stories behind these photos... #electronics

niconiconi (niconiconi@cybre.space)'s status on Friday, 11-Jun-2021 09:25:38 CEST niconiconi Q: What do you say when a #Tektronix oscilloscope is broken, and it cannot be fixed on site so you'll have to live without the scope in the following days?
A: You have a "Teknical" problem, and your problem is "out of scope". #electronics

In a Linear Technology application notes, Jim Williams said the ROYER pin on their LT1182 CCFL switching power supply chips may be the only pin on a chip ever named after a person.
But the author was able to find two more cases 🤣 , including the ZENER pin on the CD4046 PLL chip, and the KELVIN pin on OnSemi's CAT2300 Current Mirror and Switch Controller. #electronics

niconiconi (niconiconi@cybre.space)'s status on Tuesday, 11-May-2021 17:05:54 CEST niconiconi #TIL When a Class 2 ceramic capacitor is heated above its Curie temperature (130 °C), the crystal structure changes. Soldering the cap causes a sudden increase of capacitance beyond spec (so don't attempt to hand-matching ceramic caps!), followed by a logarithmic decline (aging). This is reversible, resoldering the cap or baking the board can "reset" an aged cap back to the initial state.
"Referee time" is the time for a cap's capacitance to decline back to its standard spec value (X7R cap ages slowly, referee time is 1,000 h., X5R is only 48 h.). A DC bias not just reduces the effective capacitance, but further accelerates aging in a nonlinear way.
As usual, Class 1 NP0/C0G capacitors are not affected by these effects. #electronics

niconiconi (niconiconi@cybre.space)'s status on Tuesday, 06-Apr-2021 23:30:08 CEST niconiconi Spent 1 hour to route the circuit board, then I walked into the kitchen. While I was trying to squeeze all the dishes into the dishwasher, I suddenly realized what I was doing in the kitchen at this point is essentially the same thing as what I previously did on the computer... 🤣Component placement is everything. #electronics

I don't really know what to do. I'd love to make some electronics but I'm always changing focus and #electronics don't get the time slots they need to be done.
Maybe if I share all I researched they will be done by someone.
I'll also like to #collab with someone to make them.

I want to gather some information about people on the fediverse who work as #freelance or #smallCompanies of the #technology world (#computers #electronics ...).
I'd like to have a repository of all of the folks here who want to collaborate with an estimate expected income (different country, different salary!) and a simple CV.
Like the idea?
