Most people don't want to be free, so we should never slow down the progress of freedom in the name of being accessible to those who don't care.

@vertigo I am unaccountably bothered by the fact that there is a fork of Lightning that is a common misspelling of Lightning. In fact, when I first saw this post I thought the author was misspelling Lightning.

@jeffalyanak @aral But you have to realize people are comparing to:

    1. Buy computer.
    2. Use computer.

    Puri.sm have the right idea.

any more than software that runs in a VMWare virtual appliance is crossplatform. It's not even significantly lighter weight than doing that.

Taking your platform with you doesn't make your software crossplatform.

@aral We need to shift the conversation so that it's no longer people choosing to expose just their own information, but information about everyone they interact with as well. It needs to stop being socially acceptable to let others spy on you.

It's almost 2019, and every application that wants to share stuff via "the cloud" must still implement support for each cloud provider separately, even though WebDAV has existed for over a decade.

In other words, "the cloud" is really just a lie told by people trying to trick you into handing over your precious files and locking yourself into their walled garden. If it ain't standards-based and interoperable, it's not "the" anything. It's "a" piece of shit.

Your reaction to #article13 should not depend on whether it passes. The people who pushed it need to be punished whether it passes or not. We need to build censorship-proof, decentralized infrastructure whether it passes or not.
