…And a rather vain one at that (and it might be having a little bit of an identity crisis).
(The last prompt was in response to me firing off a partial question by mistake.)

So it didn’t take long to get #StabilityAI to think it’s God.

A timely reminder that “punishable by fine” means “legal for the rich.”
To be “apolitical” is simply to be fine with the worst injustices of your time. Likely because they don’t affect you personally (yet).
…And on that last note, I’ve been trying to find alternatives to Raspberry Pi – would be very interested if folks have any leads… especially to boards that can be used for education.

Well, given I can’t demonstrate Kitten (https://codeberg.org/kitten/app) on a PineBook Pro due to lack of HDMI out, I just ordered a CrowPi L since I have a Raspberry Pi 4 lying about unused.

Got the advanced kit – want to demonstrate how you can do Small Web dev on this thing. And for education… imagine kids making a web site that displays sensor readings (humidity, temperature, etc.) :)
(Note: this is in no way an endorsement of spycop-hiring Raspberry Pi Foundation.)
If you’re using Mastodon, I’d highly recommend setting:
- Slow mode. This stops you from losing your place while you’re reading a timeline when new posts come it. It also fixes the bug where rotating your phone while watching a video dumps you back in the timeline at some new place.
- Disable swiping motions. This stops you from accidentally changing timelines when you were trying to go back using a browser that implements swiping motions as shortcuts for navigation.
Unfortunately, Firefox is the best browser you’re going to get under capitalism/Silicon Valley.
Thankfully, we can do so much better than capitalism/Silicon Valley.
If we want a browser owned and controlled by the people, we must fund an organisation owned and controlled by the people to build and maintain it. (So, for example, an independent org funded by our taxes.)
And, hey, they don’t even have to start from scratch. They can, for example, fork Firefox. ;)
@Shamar @ekaitz_zarraga @Pixificial @craigmaloney Do you have a source explaining what those loopholes are, by chance. Would love to read up on them.
Me, trying to figure out what the binary for GNOME Console is called:
1. console… nope
2. gnome-console…nope
*goes to source code repository*
Ah… of course, it’s kgx. Why didn’t I think of that earlier?
:awesome:👍
Problems we face today:
❌ Climate crisis
❌ Systemic inequality
❌ War, poverty, and disease
Silicon Valley’s solutions:
✅ Blockchain
✅ NFTs
✅ Billionaires in space
What planet are these people on?
By the way, the image in that blog post? I cobbled it together using a free and open web-based alternative to Sketch called Penpot.

Mark: let me threaten the EU with shutting down Facebook and Instagram, that’ll teach ‘em!…

New blog post: Everyone Hates Facebook (but this is more than just about Facebook)

“Pupil movements, body poses and nose scrunching are among the flickers of human expression that Meta wants to harvest in building its metaverse, according to an analysis of dozens of patents recently granted to Facebook’s parent company.”
Do you understand now what I mean when I say they’re trying to build the perfect behavioural analysis and manipulation laboratory? That you’re the lab rat in Silicon Valley’s business model? Do you get why I call it “people farming?”
Nobody accidentally makes a billion dollars while working on protecting human rights and democracy. The only way you make a billion dollars is by working on making a billion dollars.
GPL is basically the software equivalent of Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike.
Those who have a problem with it do so because they don’t want to share alike.
They want to take but not give.
So you decide how you feel about that.
The difference between a closed, algorithmically-curated silo like Twitter and the fediverse.
Same post.
Twitter: ~43K “followers”, 8 boosts, 58 likes
Fediverse: ~8.43K followers, 57 boosts, 106 likes
Your thousands of “followers” on Twitter mean nothing because the algorithm (i.e., Twitter, Inc.) decides who gets to hear you.
