@ekaitz_zarraga it's cool to have but it would have been nice to have be an import from (ice-9 spawn) :\

Oh no Guile 3.0.9 added "spawn" to the core set of bindings and like, it's a cool new thing, but that is one of the core operators in Goblins, partly specifically chosen because Racket and Guile DIDN'T use it in their core bindings :(

My one recent regret is that we were so busy we didn't have time to get in a presentation for FOSDEM. But holy moly look at these talks this year: https://fosdem.org/2023/schedule/track/declarative_and_minimalistic_computing/

    Thrilling :D

Aligning Spritely with the Guile, Scheme, Guix communities seems like it's turned out to be a very good idea for us. Productivity is really high over here and the set of tools are really good.

The next release of guile-goblins is gonna be a *MASSIVE* step up in usability too. Should be out soon. Get hyped.

@technomancy That is why Goblins was based on scheme: exploring a new idea space is easy. Lisp is clay.

But I agree of course that having standard libraries is Good, Actually.

@technomancy Yes but your language doesn't need to bottom out in a pattern matcher, and the next time a good idea akin to a pattern matcher is worth exploring, you don't need to extend the core language to explore that idea space

For example here's a blogpost where @wingo just drops a pattern matcher out of nowhere and it's not even the main point of the blogpost https://wingolog.org/archives/2011/08/30/the-gnu-extension-language

"See yeah I'm sure your lisp is cool but my favorite programming language has *pattern matching* baked in"

*Quietly scoops a handful of earth from the ground, squeezes while concentrating for half a second, a pattern matcher falls out, fully formed*

"God damnit this is why everyone hates you guys"

Awesome essay about Spritely Goblins by @garbados, and the experiences of coming to understand why it's interesting: https://garbados.github.io/my-blog/conceptual-intro-to-spritely-goblins.html

    > It seems like a different order of sorcery than the likes to which I have grown stubbornly accustom. What it makes easy should be a decade of work.

a family member gave me their wacom tablet (mine was old enough to vote in the US) and it has these neat buttons on them I'd like to map to shortcuts in Krita but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it

I don't have time to marvel at how cool Krita is! But it's pretty cool. It's time to hack on Goblinoid.
