Hey @Shamar , I've been reading your posts/comments on lobsters on this matter without never replying to it.
I totally agree with you on this point. I've been ranting on this for the last 3 years without any traction as well. I think the problem here is more cultural than anything.
I find funny that a consensus about the fact that Applets were a bad idea exists while we are recreating exactly the same kind of VM.
My umatrix based tinfoil setup makes usually amuses my friends. As a matter of fact, it made smile @ekaitz_zarraga
no later than last weekend :)
Hence my suggestion: have you tried to get in touch with the umatrix/noscript guys? Looks like they are trying to fix the same problem.
I feel like JS blocker UX is kind of an unexplored problem. Maybe if we could find a UX allowing non technical users to intuitively choose what kind of code they wanna run on their machine we would be taken more seriously.
Anyways, that was my almost useless 2 cents.Ekaitz Zárraga 👹 repeated this. -

I didn't talk with uMatrix/NoScript devs because I think #privacy and #security should be the default working mode of the #Web.
You should opt-in #JavaScript, not opt-in into safety.
Also I think they would have a hard time at fixing some of the aspect of this issue (think about view-source, for example).
Finally the just protect #Chrome and #Firefox users.
I talked with #Mozilla because the write the #LivingStandards and they can fix them with FF.
