    As a note:
I'm teaching some people about Blockchain in a 25 hour course programmed by the local government to push companies to the "disruptive technologies".

I'm going to be REALLY SKEPTICAL about the Blockchain uses and I'm going to do what I'm probably not expected to do.

I'm not a fanboy, I'm quite in the other side. I'm very critical with blockchain movement, Ethereum, cryptocurrencys... (and Bitcoin too).

I like technology and I like to be informed. And Bitcoin is a great piece of tech

This means I'll try to create a monster. Informed individuals who look to the new toy like what it is: a tool that is only needed in very specific cases.

I'm not going to sell it as "the most important invention since the wheel" because (damn it) it isn't.

Also, the most important usecase of the Blockchain is everything which is around it in bitcoin. The blockchain itself is maybe the most boring part of bitcoin.

I want students to learn about crypto (CRYPTOGRAPHY) and the design decisions behind Bitcoin.

That's reusable knowledge and can be used to understand any other cryptocurrency shit.

I'm not going to explain how to make business. That's not my job, and I'm not interested on it.

@ekaitz_zarraga Hope you’ll also be teaching them that proof of work is unconscionable when our habitat is on the verge of collapse due to climate change.

@aral Probably not with those words.

I don't think it's the reason of the climate change. It is helping, but the fact that I'm answering your message here in my computer is helping to push climate change too.

      So, the thing is:

      - Do proof-of-work-based designs spend A HELLA LOT OF energy? YES
      - Do we have the moral obligation to reduce the energy consumption of what we design? YES

That said: PoW solves a problem in a clever way. There's a lot to learn from it.

@aral Specific tech doesn't change shit. We need to change the way we approach World resources.
