Last iOS app update added multiple languages like Catalan, French and Spanish, though I don’t think I’ll be able to see how many people are using those languages which is a bit of a shame. I guess we’re also missing localizations for the App Store page itself…
To those upset about some design decisions in the iOS app: Nobody’s forcing you to use the iOS app. I’m fully aware that it takes a different turn from all other existing apps in some aspects, and that’s the point. If it makes the fediverse larger by retaining more new users, then I’ve succeeded and everyone benefits. If not, nobody except me loses.
There seems to be a GTA 5 game mod, or something, that seems to make HTTP requests directly to mastodon.social, with insane frequency. Intentional or not, it's basically a DDoS. The requests used to come with HTTP referrer "nui-game-internal" but I just found they switched their user agent to mask as a browser.
@aral The last paragraph is my comment and the first is the headline of the linked article. I do not say "Fuck Facebook" because of how much they take, although it is a ripoff. They also take perpetual IP rights over anything you upload there. Fuck Facebook
@alxd Well, the old documentation is still up, I did not delete it. And yes, I have added and improved the documentation based on your requests! Without someone asking, I do not know which questions need answering.
Why has mastodon.social gone invite-only two weeks ago? I grew tired of it being used as a hallway, where people enter, make a mess, then move on. It is my home, and I've put a lot into keeping it fast, secure and up-to-date.
Being invite-only means safer timelines, primarily, as trolls and people whose first instinct on a new social platform is to upload their uncensored dick have a harder time getting in.
I was going to announce it a bit later and more properly, but Mastodon received a $70k grant from Samsung NEXT through OpenCollective. I intend to make it available to those who contribute to the project, and have already notified some of the most regular contributors. The way OpenCollective works is that anyone can submit an expense and all transactions are listed transparently. It also holds the money.
As for myself, I intend to continue using Patreon for my own wage/costs.
