Yeah, there's no blockchain or artificial scarcity or mining or anything like that here.

Fediverse (including Mastodon) is all traditional servers with owners who want to keep their electricity bills as low as possible, so they are incentivised to reduce energy use rather than expand it.

There will still be an impact from any kind of server, but on traditional servers it's not artificially high. No one is incentivised to waste energy on the Fediverse or Mastodon.

There's a project called @greenfediverse which is trying to encourage people to move to servers powered by renewable energy, that might be worth checking out too?

You can let visitors filter your own posts with featured hashtags by going to:

Edit Profile > Featured Hashtags

Add a hashtag you want to highlight and click "Add new", or select one from the suggestions list. (You can remove tags from the list by clicking on their "Delete" buttons)

The featured tags will appear next to your public profile, people can click on them to filter your public profile by these tags.

You don't need to have a PeerTube account to interact with PeerTube videos.

You can comment, like, share etc PeerTube videos and subscribe to PeerTube channels entirely from within Mastodon.

Just copy and paste a PeerTube video or account URL into the Mastodon search box and press enter. You will then be able to interact with it just as if it was a Mastodon post or account.

Replies to video posts in Mastodon will appear in PeerTube as comments below the videos.

Just to make clear, you don't need to click on its link to interact with a PeerTube video on Mastodon.

The PeerTube video will appear as a Mastodon post, and you can watch it, like it, share it, comment on it, subscribe etc without leaving Mastodon. (You can pretty much ignore the link in its post!)

Fediverse addresses look like this:

@ username @ instance

So, for example, the FediTips address is:

@ feditips @ mstdn.social

(but without the spaces)

You can @ people with this address on the Fediverse, and it works just like @ -ing people on Twitter.

A Fediverse address is longer than a Twitter address because the Fediverse is made up of thousands of independent instances, so Fediverse addresses have to include which instances people are on.

There is no edit button on Mastodon (partly due to the potential for abuse), but there is something similar called redrafting.

If you have already posted something but want to change it, click on "..." and then "delete & re-draft". This deletes it, and puts a copy into the editing box so you can make changes and re-post.

WARNING: Using redrafting deletes the original message, so any links to the original will permanently break, and any replies will be orphaned.
