    JavaFX library suggestions needed

    Boosts welcome of course.

I'm looking for a library that implements manual layout of components. Imagine something like powerpoint if you like, where you can select objects on a canvas, drag them around and resize them.

I'm building a tool that allows you to create reports that show the results of computations in the KAP editor. I would really like to be able to leverage something that exists than have to implement it myself from scratch.

    Is there such a library?

@ekaitz_zarraga one of my projects that I want to get back to is a user interface for Maxima. Here's a video showing how it's used. https://peertube.functional.cafe/w/qnx1onPEx9LCtDP3wFqjWz

I would like to do a small workshop teaching some programming related stuff, like Common Lisp development, or maybe even something relating to KAP.

I don't just want to make it a screencast though. I want it to be interactive and I want people to be able to show their own screens. Perhaps something using Jitsi?

Is this something anyone would be interested in? If I announced a date for such an online meeting, would anyone want to join?

And the second case in KAP just adds another few characters to the solution in order to compute the window:

Since people are posting solutions to advent of code, I decided to take a stab at it in KAP. Here's my solution for the first problem, assuming input data is in the file part01.txt

@bugaevc Is that really an unpopular opinion? I certainly disable a lot of that stuff that IDEA tends to enable by default.

@ekaitz_zarraga often when I read comments on regarding software that has some problems, you see people commenting how people should write a replacement in rust. As if the mere fact that the software is written in rust somehow makes it better.

Turns out people don't actually care what software is written in as can be proven by the neverending stream of Python and JS applications.

@ekaitz_zarraga @codewiz I did not know that s could be used as a string suffix. When was this introduced?

I created a Matrix channel for my KAP project. It's a programming language based on APL, but with some new features I believe are unique for array languages.

If you hear anyone say "the vaccine doesn't work, you can still get COVID", then show them this graph.

You might still get COVID, but you are much more likely to not have any serious effects.

The graph was snipped from the latest Singapore COVID situation update: https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highlights/details/update-on-local-covid-19-situation-(2-july-2021)

Once I replace my car, I really want the new one to be electric. Then I will never have to worry about refuelling again. I'll just let it charge overnight at home.

A pity there is such a limited selection of electric cars here. It's basically Tesla, Porsche or BYD.

@spectrumgomas well I'd take the tangent of the line, and since I know the angle I can then compute the intersection point and from there easily calculate the side length. Now, I'm on my phone right now so I'm not going to actually solve it.

Anyway, I'm sure there is some clever solution that doesn't require trigonometry?

If anyone with Unix skills (and preferably some development skills as well, but not really a requirement) wants a job, my employer has some openings right here in Singapore. You don't need to live in Singapore to apply.

@ekaitz_zarraga When I explain public blockchains (as opposed the regular sequences which hash the previous elements, like git for example) I focus on the main benefit, which is that you have a shared ledger when none of the users of the system trusts each other. Also, it's only useful if the information in the blockchain has value on its own and not tied to a real-world thing.

Besides cryptocurrencies, voting systems are the only thing I can think of that fits that definition.
