Like, even the choice of medium and materials is political. If you choose to make high poly sculpts on a powerful PC, that further legitimizes tech optimism.
A piece of art is always a message. If the message is bad - regardless of intention - then the art is bad.
So it's frustrating that that piece was selected for a monthly BlenderArtists newsletter.

I keep thinking about that thread on the BlenderArtists forum where people were defending a technically neat but politically extremely shallow piece of art with "well we don't care about politics here, only the art" and, ugh.
Was reminded of it with because someone mentioned how Italian futurism was tied to fascism and I'm pretty sure my art classes omitted that uncomfortable fact for some reason. I really don't like the "art can be fully divorced from politics" meme.

@milofultz "Message" in this case is "social impact". Memetic payload. If the art has a negative social effect, it's bad. Similarly, if it has a positive effect, it's good, even if it was made with bad intentions.

Fun fact about #Hungarian that has not stopped bothering me ever since I learned about it in elementary school:
there are two letters that are functionally the same, "j" and "ly", they have the exact same pronunciation and so on, and their only function is to show off how good your education was.
Dropping "ly" was seriously considered but was rejected because... "tradition".

And at that point I lost all respect to tradition, the end.

ayyy, went from "wow stuff is going pretty good" to "haha, all my friends are probably tired of me and also i'm a failure" in like 48 hours. it's great when that happens.
maybe i'm just bummed that no one is responding to my messages, not even friends who used to check their inboxes daily just a month ago. well, i guess everyone went home and are busy with family and other stuff.

Could yall do something about #GitLab 's Cloudflare (?) setup blocking people who have unusual devices or browsers? It makes it impossible for me to contribute.
I tried GitLab's tech support but got no response. I don't think they would listen to a single person anyway, but maybe if a visible project spoke up they'd do something.
Or maybe move to a different GitLab instance?

@ekaitz_zarraga @shapr @xj9 Hmmmmm. This might be an interesting avenue for @postmarketOS UIs on old devices...Not braille but TTS. Even on devices that are hard to mainline, as long as you have (multi)touch input, you could probably navigate just fine.Could save a lot on battery too, since those screens eat up a lot of it. (But maybe TTS processing would diminish the savings somewhat? Depending on TTS engine of choice.)

My parents invited a couple yesterday and since they are blind we talked a bunch about accessibility tech and I learned about some cool hardware. For example, did you know that there are bluetooth Braille keyboards that are actually standalone screenless computers that you can read and take notes on?I also found out about a cool screenless e-reader / "smartphone", except it's not a phone, but seems to have most features you'd except from a PDA or smartphone.

@wim_v12e But also it'd be Very Neat if English class was treated as the place where you learn to talk to people from all around the world, which is IMHO the real reason anyone learns it, so why not reflect that in the example texts and illustrations and maybe talk about a different culture on each class, or in each module, or whatever.
